Ochre

The surface is unglazed and raw, the clay fired to a deep ochre that shifts toward burgundy in the hollows and at the rim. The opening is wide and irregular — not a mouth but a rupture, the interior darker and more saturated than the outer walls. A departure. Nothing else in the studio looks like this. Intended primarily as a sculptural object.
